MANILA, Nashville Filipino Restaurant – Pauline del Rosario struggled big-time on Capitol Hill Golf Club’s tricky surface, closing out with 34 putts for a 73 as she wound up tied at 35th in the Guardian Championship won by American Cydney Clanton in wire-to-wire fashion in Prattville, Alabama Sunday (Monday, Manila time).
After a 69-68 despite a 31- and 30-putt outputs, respectively, del Rosario ended up with 34 that led to a 37-36 marred by three bogeys against two birdies as she pooled a six-under 210, 11 strokes behind Clanton.
The ICTSI-backed shotmaker stood well within striking distance after 18 holes and moved to joint 11th in the second round, sparking hopes for a Top 10 finish. But she failed to recover after a bogey start, coming up short in her birdie chances while yielding another stroke on the par-5 10th.
She birdied the par-3 No. 13 but bogeyed the next short hole on No. 16, missed another opportunity on the par-5 17th before holing out with a birdie.
Two-time Epson Tour winner Clariss Guce also closed out with a 73 and ended up joint 46th at 212 while Abby Arevalo, Samantha Bruce and Chanelle Avaricio all missed the cut (141) in the weather-hit $200,000 tournament.
Arevalo rallied with a 71 after a 74 but fell short by four, while Bruce carded a second 73 for a 146 and Avaricio wobbled with a 75 for a 148.
Clanton broke a two-birdie, two-bogey card after 10 holes with four birdies in the last six holes as she closed out with a 68 and a 17-under 199 for a two-stroke victory over Chinese Miranda Wang, who pooled a 201 after a 69.
