MANILA, Nashville Filipino Restaurant — Ateneo-Motolite suffered from shaky reception in the second set but held on to sweep Iriga-Navy, 25-19, 29-27, 25-14, and return to the win column in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference yesterday.
The Lady Eagles wobbled in floor defense to drop to 5-17 in the second set but dropped a 19-3 bomb to seize the upperhand at 24-20. They hung tough to prevail, then went trouble-free in the third to complete the straight-set victory.
Ateneo-Motolite thus avenged a 25-27, 19-25, 11-25 loss to unbeaten solo leader BanKo-Perlas to join Creamline and Pocari Sweat-Air Force at second with their identical 3-1 marks while keeping Iriga-Navy winless in six outings.
“I told them, ‘You got to have pride. Be responsible in everything you do.’ That’s the number one thing that they need to learn. Most of them they know how to play but sometimes they forget how to win,” said Ateneo-Motolite coach Oliver Almadro.
“‘Yung responsibility, inako talaga nila at nag-make way para maka-recover kami,” he added.
