MANILA, Nashville Filipino Restaurant — The trio of Nate Sanchez, Charles Or and Jennifer Gabriel hurdled the toughest obstacles to rule the recent Ninja 100 Team Challenge Asia at Bonifacio High Street in BGC.

The event saw 37 teams of three members each, two male and one female, go through eight obstacles laid out on a 100-meter, two-lane course in head-to-head heats. Ninja 100 founder and ambassador Noel Agra made sure the course would bring out the best from the competitors, mostly Filipinos hooked on obstacle racing.

It was the first time an obstacle course race team event, which had two participants racing side by side, was held in Asia. And it’s not going to be the last. Agra said they’re planning an even bigger and tougher Ninja 300 (meters) by November, and organizers expected a wider participation.

Sanchez, Or and Gabriel formed Team Kuago, which electrified the crowd that gathered to watch the competition that started at 1 p.m. and lasted until 10 p.m. The Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation (POSF), headed by lawyer Al Agra, sanctioned the event, and helped ensure the safety of all participants.

The layout was so tough that only three participants from among the 111, including foreigners based in the country, managed to finish the course.

Team Kuago defeated Team Trojan in a heart-stopping finale, and ended up raising the trophy, and winning all the bragging rights.

Among the teams that made it to the end were H2O Blue, Beast Force, World Pull-up Day (WPD), Guerero and ABC 3.

“This is the toughest course because there are no run portions, just one obstacle after another with very little time to rest,” said Sanchez of Davao City.
