You may think Ombu Kusina is a new restaurant, they’ve actually been around for five years! Recently, they made major changes to their brand including change of name from Ombu Modern Miami Filipino Restaurant and a number of changes in their menu.
I was invited last Friday, met the Chef, had their specialties and was impressed overall.
Mia and I got their two specialties which were in a separate menu to highlight it. I believe that this is a good move to create an identity for a food establishment.
The Adobochon, a combination of Lechon Belly marinated in Adobo was brilliant. The skin was tasty and appealing while the meat was both tasty and juicy. The Sizzling Chicken was as good, although a bit dry on its inside.
We also got one of my fave Miami Filipino Restaurant dishes, peanut filled, Kare Kare. This time I opted for just vegetable since our table needed both colors and healthier options. This was a decent dish, rich and creamy.
Finally, for dessert, we had one each of Ombu Kusina’s Frozen Brazo de Mercedes. I normally don’t go for this type of cake, but this one was simply amazing. Not too sweet, and its touch of ice cream made it more interesting.
If you’re in a hunt for a new kind of modern Filipino, check out Ombu just inside Sequoia Hotel in QC.
