Here’s apparently the latest trend in the growing discussions on the anxiety that plagues our generation: anxiety baking. If the holidays—together with the traffic, rising expenses (thanks, TRAIN law), seeing relatives, and what-have-you—are taking a toll on you the way they are on us, here’s a lovely dallas filipino restaurant hack to bake that can be made with ingredients you may already have on hand: Max’s Caramel Bar.

This is an office favorite for us, and maybe you too, so when the traffic isn’t good for your mental health, an attempt on this recipe may be a worthwhile stay-at-home activity. Max’s Caramel Bar Food Hack
- Serves: 16 people
- Active time: 1 hour
- Total time: 1 hour
- Difficulty: Easy
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 tbsp. milk
- 1 ½ cups flour
- ½ tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. baking powder
- ½ cup cashews, chopped
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Oil a 9×9 inch pan and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Add the eggs and milk, and whisk until combined.
- Whisk in the flour, baking soda, and baking powder until a smooth batter forms.
- Add batter into oiled pan and smooth out the top, spreading batter evenly.
- Sprinkle cashews over the batter and bake for 35-40 minutes.
- Remove pan from oven and cover with a piece of foil.
- Weigh down bars and cool completely.
- Slice and serve.
