When we are feeling sluggish from too much meat, we can appreciate meat-free meals from one of Makati’s many delivery services that caters to the office crowd so that you can decide what service best fits your need.

Greenery Kitchen

PHP 90 for a lunch from Greenery Kitchen, with a PHP 10 additional charge if you want a red rice upgrade.

On the Greenery Kitchen menu for the day was sinigang with tofu-seaweed fritters. The vegan sinigang was surprisingly similar to what we expect from a typical sinigang, with even the fake meat being pretty believable. Though the fritters could be accused of being dull, the seaweed livened up the thick fried chunks of tofu to create a side dish that surprised and pleased us.

Good Food Vegetarian

Good Food delivered a dish almost identical to Greenery Kitchen: an “unpork” sinigang with eggplant pakora. The flavor is truly unlike pork, but has the warm, sour comforts of a typical sinigang, with a chunk of stringy fake meat that we assume is gluten. The eggplant pakora was well seasoned in its just-the-right-amount-of-thick coating, adding depth to its flavor and complementing the sinigang.

Juicesabel

Unlike the other delivery services that offer a set dish for the day, Juicesabel delivers any dish from their menu. Their lunches are a little more expensive, but some might find that extra cash worth it to have the variety of choice. We opted for what they informed us was their bestseller: sisig. All Juicesabel dishes come with red rice, which we take as a symbol that they are dedicated to health-conscious living, and sure enough we felt their dish was the healthiest of the bunch.

The sisig was topped with fake egg that really was made of tofu with a mayo-like yellow sauce (although it isn’t mayonnaise since mayo isn’t vegan) and had no other semblance to the egg other than its child’s plaything-like superficial appearance. The attempt to mimic the appearance of sisig with egg was amusing, though it threw us for a loop flavor-wise and wasn’t our favorite part of the dish. The sisig itself tasted like a sisig-flavored tofu dish rather than actual sisig—it lacked creaminess and was tarter than your average—but we enjoyed it for what it was.

Green Dot

PHP 150 for this feast of flavored rice, chapatis, eggplant, adn vegetable fritters in sauce.

If you are just looking for something tasty and filling, when the modest lunch portions of the other delivery services won’t do, Green Dot is the service for you. Perhaps it is a little unfair to the others since Green Dot is vegetarian instead of vegan, and the inclusion of egg and dairy (hello, butter!) is a taste game-changer, but with that flavor comes cholesterol so it’s give-and-take. Green Dot specializes in vegetarian Indian cuisine, and this plate was bursting with flavors on every corner, with a memorable chapati that is mouth-melty buttery.
